FAQ
Q: What’s up with the muffins?
A: It all started when CJ left a muffin in her desk drawer for an un-disclosed amount of time (we just know it was really long), and when it was found, it was pretty hard. We had a field day with it and decided to give it a personality and a place on top of a shelf where everyone could see it. Before long everyone was adding to it, and it kind of became somewhat of a mascot. Brandon was the first to adorn the muffin with a spork and knife. Liz was always there from the beginning to make sure the muffin was never thrown away (she had to do some convincing with the first one). We’ve been through several real muffins over the years, and have even made outfits for them.
Q: Who writes for the Muffin Chat Muffin?
A: He does his own writing. Every now and then he’ll have a friend such as the Poppy Muffin sit in for him.
Q: No seriously, who writes for the Muffin Chat Muffin?
A: That’s classified information.
Q: Can I start making comics for the site and become one of the Oxygen Deficient team?
A: Actually, no. We aren’t really like a community that you can just join, or like a business you could work for. We do all of this for fun and don’t make any money, so even if we were hiring (which we aren’t and never will) we couldn’t pay you. However, we are always open to receiving fan comics/art. If it doesn’t get posted on the main page, chances are we’ll post it in the Gallery or something. We also have a Forum where you can contribute and talk with us and other Oxygen Deficient readers.
Q: You guys are pretty weird.
A: That’s not really a question, but we get that a lot. Thanks.
Q: What’s the deal with the sticky notes?
A: We enjoy writing down funny things that are often taken completely out of context. We’ve made the really good ones available on the site. There’s actually a page where you can view them all, and don’t have to keep refreshing the main page.
Q: That Bartolo character looks an awful lot like one of the Mario Bros.
A: Oh you noticed that too huh?
Q: So who exactly is the artist?
A: There are 2 artists, Liz and Brandon. Liz does all of the main/human characters, and she drew the Muffin Chat muffin. Brandon does all the other muffins and non-human characters such as the Squid and Short-lived Creatures. He also does most of the game graphics we have in comics such as +1 Lint and others.
Q: You guys must have a lot of free time on your hands.
A: Nothing could be farther from the truth. We are always extremely busy with school and work, and barely have time to work on Oxygen Deficient, but we make time because we love doing it.
Q: Where do you guys come up with this stuff?
A: A lot of it is variations on real events. Some of it is from funny or misconstrued conversations.
Q: Have you ever thought about animations with the characters from the site?
A: Yes. Yes, we have.
Q: Why don’t you guys ever let loose and have your characters curse in the comics?
A: Because we have a wide range of readers, and don’t feel that colorful language makes our comics any funnier. Also, the little symbols… #$%& make us laugh.
Q: Are all the Muffin Chat emails from real people, or do you guys just make those up?
A: They’re all from real people. We don’t make any of them up. You can send the muffin an email too, if you’re so inclined.
Q: Oh you guys should get a MySpace!!
A: FOR THE LOVE OF THE INTERNET NO!!! Get a LiveJouranl, then you can friend the Muffin or the Newsbreak, and comment to your hearts content. You don’t even have to have a LiveJournal to comment though.
Q: I want to comment on the comics. Where can I go to do that?
A: We have a Forum for that.
Q: I have this itch that’s driving me crazy.
A: We have a cream for that.
